Sol Duc Falls
Olympic National Park, Washington
Behind the Lens: I arrived at the trailhead before sunrise hoping to have Sol Duc Falls to myself. I waited a little bit since I was there well before first light. With flashlight in hand, I finally decided it was time to head into the forest. There’s an informative sign at the beginning of the trail talking about how the area is bear and cougar territory. Not going to lie, made me a little worried heading into the dark forest by myself but I pushed on. After a nice hike I made it to the bridge overlooking the falls. I was able to capture this photo of the falls with some fall color in the background. Even with lower water flow, the falls were striking. After finishing up, I noticed an orange sign on a post. I checked it out to see that it was for a cougar frequenting the area and that solo hiking wasn’t advised. Glad I saw that after I got my photo.
