Portland Head Light, Maine
Behind the Lens: Portland Head Light is one of the most photographed places in New England and for good reason. I was able to get my “hero” shot so while the light was still beautiful, I searched for a unique perspective of the lighthouse. I went further away and obscured most of the house for this shot. Using a longer focal length and creating a pano, I was able to get the more distant lighthouse larger in my shot. The small details of this shot are what make it for me. The light in the further away lighthouse is illuminated towards me and if you look closely at the chimney on the house, you can see a bird perched that can go easily missed on first viewing.
