A battle scarred bison walks past the badlands of North Dakota on a warm fall day.

Battle Damage

Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota

Behind the Lens: While heading to a hike, I noticed a couple of bison walking along a ridge. I pulled over and lined up a shot to capture the bison with the North Dakota badlands behind him. The bison was showing the battle damage of this year’s rut. He had a scarred hide and a turned down horn which made him quite unique to photograph.
